I live in a smaller town in the intermountain west where classic dress is usually centered around Carhartt, Wranglers, and laced roper boots. But like most towns, we have our lawyers, doctors, accountants, and other professionals. Most of them dress pretty casually but even the ones that wear a coat and tie or suit are wearing the most god awful shoes imaginable. You know the kind I mean - those big clunky half leather, half rubber monstrosities or the square toe used car salesmen specials. I'm no metrosexual but I've noticed what's on a man's feet as much as any woman and, I think most men are lost when it comes to shoes.
Now, I'm no sartorial genius and for decades have stuck to, mostly, the simple stuff where it's hard to screw up (khakis, cords, the occasional jeans, surcingle belts, ocbd shirts, boat shoes, desert boots, penny loafers, repp ties, and a blue blazer and tweed sports coat.) But jeez, there ought to be a rule about wearing the correct shoes with what you're wearing. At least the farmers and ranchers get it right for their mode of attire. So why can't the car salesmen, docs, lawyers, CPAs, etc.?
Whew! I feel better. Thanks for letting me rant. :)
It really is all about the shoes, isn't it?
