A few days ago, a one-off publication hit the magazine racks. It's a magazine about John Wayne's style; specifically, about the natty way he tended to dress off-screen. It's filled with photos of him dressed up and dressed casually in a variety of contexts.
Pictures of John Wayne, both on- and off-screen, are easy enough to come by on the Internet. What makes this particular magazine worth a look are the many present-day, close-up color photographs of some of the clothes that Wayne actually wore in his private life: shirts, trousers, shoes, belts, a sport coat--even his notched lapel (!) tuxedo.
I didn't buy the magazine--nor will I--but I had fun paging through it while standing in Walgreen's. I like seeing high-definition contemporary photos of clothing that famous people wore years ago.
A few months ago, there was another magazine about John Wayne's life. It contained, among other things, current photos of several pages from one of his LL Bean catalogues from around 40 or so years ago. You can see where Wayne circled the items that he wanted. He would have then given the catalogue to his personal assistant so that she could place the order for him.
In case you are a fan of John Wayne...
