Midwestern winter, parking outside, and dress slacks: a conundrum

mercredi 4 novembre 2015

I am a new employee of an organization in the Midwest with some serious parking issues. A new garage is at least two years off, and unless you are one of the top five executives in the organization or an ER doctor (I am in neither category), you are wait-listed for a spot in one of the existing garages. In short, I will have to park outdoors for the foreseeable future.

Unfortunately, my position is such that there is still an expectation that I wear at least dress slacks, and often a suit, to work. When the snow inevitably begins falling in the next few weeks, I foresee that I will have difficulties. I will almost certainly have to wear fairly high boots on at least some days in order to protect my pants (not to mention my feet) from snow and salt. However, tucking my pant legs into said boots is sure to result in horrible wrinkles.

My question is this: under these conditions, how will I continue to look important enough to have an indoor parking spot without actually having one?
