How to flatten a crease in the inner canvas of a blazer after dry cleaning?

vendredi 4 décembre 2015

Hi all,

Long time lurker, first time poster. I got a blazer dry cleaned recently and I noticed that a portion of the canvas lining the back upper shoulder is creased and folded over itself in a zig zag like pattern. It looks like it may have been pressed in the folded state.
Since the jacket is only partially lined, the canvas in this area is accessible.

My first thought was to just go back to the cleaner and ask them to fix it, but it just doesn't seem worth the hassle because I don't feel like this particular cleaner would do any better job than I could (otherwise this wouldn't have happened in the first place). I just want to make sure that I'm well informed before I do anything myself. Should I use a steamer or an iron to flatten it? Should I press/steam the canvas directly, or do it through the jacket? If I use a press cloth, can I press it directly?

Now I've read the AAAC thread discussing this controversial topic along with the famous post by jefferyd. The info I gathered seems to suggest that steaming canvassed jackets can shrink the canvas, but would ironing it directly be any better? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
