Blazers, Sport Jackets, and Buttons

I'm sure this question has been asked but after a bit of searching I just haven't really been able to find a good answer to this question. There's actually a couple questions I have here:

1. I bought a jacket from J. Crew recently that's advertised as a blazer but based on the fabric choice I'm not sure that it should be classified as such. I got this jacket in navy:

I actually really like it and don't really care if its a blazer or sport jacket since it fits me well and looks good. But in the interest of a proper definition I thought I'd ask. Not that I think there's a very firm definition here!

2. More importantly, since my intention was to buy a blazer, I wanted to put my own buttons on it. As a die hard Florida alum, I thought it would be fun to get some University of Florida buttons. This actually was harder to find than I expected but I was eventually able to secure a set of dull gold colored buttons with the UF crest on them. Gold was not my first choice but if I wanted something school related on them then it was my only choice really and I'm satisfied since they are not shiny. I'm not worried about a debate over the merits of gold vs other materials but more if these buttons would be out of place on a jacket that is of navy tweed material.

I created this account a few weeks ago to rant about dress at a wedding I went to but I think this is a better use of my first post. :)
