I teach at a law school in Texas, and a fierce sartorial debate has broken out among the students. We have a little program in which students learn how to dress in a professional setting. It seems that the students have been told that they should never wear black shoes with a blue suit. They should only wear brown shoes.
This strikes me as a little odd. I've been wearing suits for over 40 years and have never worn brown shoes with a blue suit. I've always worn black or cordovan/burgundy. Nevertheless, there apparently is a school of thought that you should go brown because it is more casual. Oh well, you learn something new every day. I love brown shoes and have about five pairs, but I don't think that I will ever wear them with a blue suit.
