I want to change the dark brown and black spotted colors of my cordovan boots to this nicely toned, gradually varying Horween Inferno color, and I'm trying to find a matching dye and Meltonian color (the shoe color on the right).
I think I found one, the "Lincoln Marine Cordovan" dye and color, but I'm unsure if that's the right color. Can anyone verify this, or suggest an alternative? And, is there a preferred and trusted brand?
Also, I'm looking for a Meltonian cream that comes close to it. I could use neutral, but I want to also be able to do some touch up just in case the color goes. Would it be the Light Brown or Cognac colors? Though, this Horween Inferno color seems to have some reddish tones, so would I go with London Tan or Medium Brown? Or, must I mix two fo the colors? Maybe there are other Meltonian colors that aren't on this chart (?).
And, I tried using acetone with a rag to remove the black spots, but I've only been able to get about 10% of the area off (not 10% of the overall color, but 10% of part of the area). Maybe I simply need to keep at it, but I'm concerned that prolonged use will dry out and tear the fibers of my cordovan boots. So, would alcohol be just as or more effective, and be relatively more safe?
Thanks all in advance!
