Hi Really new to world of high quality shoes and have some questions regarding my AE experience and general fit guide so please bare with my long post.
First off, I measured my feet with the Brannock device which showed just over an 11 in overall length and a little more using the arch length. My width shows to be a C/B based on the 11/11.5 length.
I needed a new pair of dress shoes for work that could handle a lot of walking on concrete (6 plus miles per day average), were comfortable and looked OK since I am in an upper management position (Business Casual). I have typically gone with Clarks for this, but really wanted to move up this time around. I ended up looking at the AE road warrior styles since they best matched the rubber sole and walking requirements. I ended up ordering the LAX Derby in a size 11 with a D width.
Now for my questions
1) They feel pretty tight around my little toe. It does not hurt, but it definitely is pushing out on the leather side of the shoe. Is this typical and at what point would I want a wider shoe since this is a medium and the Brannock shows I am on the narrower side for my length of foot.
- The ball of my foot seems to line up fairly well to the widest part of the shoe.
- The heal is comfortably snug.
- Around ¾ toe space
- If I pull the laces extremely tight I still have a little less than ¼ gap between sides. Comfortable leaves about 3/8
2) I was able to get to Dallas today (about 2 hours away) and visited an AE store (did not think to bring the actual shoes I ordered duh). The gentleman working did not seem really interested in dealing with customers and just went through the motion. He only measured the length of my foot and asked what size I had ordered since I said the little toe was hitting the side. Without really looking at my foot he brought out another shoe from the series (since they didnt have my size) that was a 10.5 length and E width. No doubt it felt roomier, but I did not really look at it every way. He did not check the fit at all. Just being roomy does not necessarily mean the correct fit right? What concerns me is the E width. If I am a C/B per true measurement than E seems like a big jump for this 511G last. Maybe he was dead on with his call, but I have concerns now that I am reading up on a good fit.
3) Does anyone have a copy of the printable AE foot size guide? Either AE took it down, or their link is broken for it.
Sorry for rambling on. I just have to make a decision on the size and Im not sure going shorter/wider makes sense. Is there something else I should be looking at for a true fit? Should the center of the ball of your foot line up with the widest part of the shoe or is there some tolerance? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated since I am so new to true sizing.
Thanks
