In about a week, I'm leaving for an 8 day vacation in Nashville, Memphis, and Louisville. I'm struggling a bit with what clothes to take. I know it's going to be much warmer than Seattle, so I will be bring clothes that fit that bill. However, shoes are my biggest problem (as they take up the most space). I was planning on wearing my Alden Indys most of the time, while bringing another dressier pair in my suitcase. I am travelling with only one carry on and a smaller bag that goes under the seat, so space is limited.
Mainly I will be wearing linen blend sport shirts paired with a pair of raw linen jeans. This works fine for the daytime and the Indys look fine with this. It's comfortable enough to spend the day in when I'm doing the tourist type activities.
I'm also bringing a pair of mid-grey poplin pants and a linen/cotton OCBD in blue. I plan on wearing this for the two nicer dinners we will be having. I have a cotton khaki blazer and raw silk tie to pair it with. I will most likely be wearing a pair of oxblood long wings.
I will also have a raw linen shawl collar sweater, a light rain shell, and a navy sweater vest packed to mix and match with those outfits.
I'd like to bring a third pair of pants. I was thinking about bringing a pair of Bill's chino's in antique red (it's very similar to Nantucket red). I know it could pair with some of the sport shirts. It looks very good with the linen sweater. It would also work with the OCBD and the sweater vest. The blazer would work fine with it as well. My problem is shoes. If I throw on the blazer or the OCBD + sweater vest, I'm not sure the Indys are dressy enough. And I'm not sure the oxblood long wings are a very good look. Normally I wear a tan pair of double monks or white bucks with them, but both of those shoes are fairly bulky and I don't really want to pack them and the long wings.
I have a pair of mid-brown suede Venetian driving loafers. They're fairly compact and I could pack those. Or, I could just pack a pair of light khaki chamois pants instead of the red and accept that the blazer will only be worn with the grey.
Anyone have thoughts and/or opinions?
