I have a few plaid ties (I assume these all qualify as plaid?) but never feel wholly confident in my selection when I wear one. I can't quite put my finger on the reason either... I mean, I have some ties that just *work* and I have no doubt it looks great. I never feel that way with the plaids.
I'll wear 'em, usually matching one of the background patterns of the tie to the shirt, and usually offsetting the size of the check between the tie and the shirt. Still, feeling like I'm making a compromise when I resign myself to wearing one that day.

Why then do I keep buying them? :rolleyes2: Today I bought this, thinking the burnt orange might be a good addition to my fall tie collection. It will likely be worn with basic blue or white pinpoint oxford shirts in my business casual work environment. Maybe if I just better understood when a plaid tie is mostly appropriate would help me increase my confidence them. Any feedback for this fashion novice?
