Leather Dye Smell - Car Seats

Just asking this question on AAAC since there are so many knowledgeable people here.

My mom is ninety and still drives a bit, safely believe it or not. She is using my older vehicle. Several years ago I had the leather seats, which were scuffed up/worn a bit, re-dyed by a detail guy.

Ever since then, they have had a strong smell to them. My mom says she doesn't notice it. I rarely use the car so it isn't on my mind, but every so often I'll drive her somewhere in that car and then I remember about it.

Is there some way to get rid of that smell ? One idea I had was to put some leather conditioner on them. A while back I had do some online research and saw something at some detail shop but never bought it.

I wish I could put my finger on what it smells like but I cannot quite bring it to mind. I am just amazed it has stayed so strong for such a long time. I guess it reminds me of when I was a kid, the smell of an old can of paint from my grandfather's garage that was dried up and hadn't been open for years and years. Ie. it didn't have any more tangy "solvent" smell to it, just sort of a "polish" smell, if that makes any sense and I am not even sure of that.

Can anyone help me out here?

Thanks !
