I want to love the L.L. Bean Scotch Plaid Flannel shirts. But I'm having trouble finding a good fit and feeling a bit frustrated.
In the past, I had tried size M and size L, Traditional Fit. My recollection is that the size M was a little tight, or seemed so after an initial washing. I exchanged for size L and ordered a couple.
This year, when I put them on for the first time the fit seemed voluminous, especially across the chest and in the sleeves. Sleeve length was not an issue, but rather width. And I haven't lost weight.
This year, before pulling out my prior purchases, I ordered a MacHardie in size L, traditional fit, just going by my past purchases. But it felt overly large on me, and my wife even remarked that it looked huge.
I honestly feel that today's L is yesterday's XL. We've gotten bigger, folks.
I exchanged the MacHardie for a size M, but after it arrived, I'm reminded why I didn't care for that size in the first place.
It's too damn small.
I don't care so much that I can't button it at the neck comfortably, because I won't wear a tie with it. But the button below that is way too high. Buttoning it feels constricting, but not buttoning it leaves the shirt a little too open at the chest. The shirt feels slightly tight across the chest/upper back. On another note, the collars on both sizes are ridiculously small (2-5/8").
In short, the L feels too big, while the M feels slightly small. It could almost pass for a S. And for reference, I'm 5-9, 156.
Has anyone tried the slightly fitted LLB Scotch Plaid flannels? How is the fit?
How do you like these shirts to fit? Loose and billowy, or less so?
I'm thinking of trying a size L in the slightly fitted offering, but would like some feedback first.
Thanks in advance.
