J. Peterman does have a sense of humor!
I was perusing the J. Peterman Owner’s Manual No 132, cognac in hand (all the glasses were in the dishwasher) when I alighted on page 5. A bafflement!
The copy about the Entrepreneur Blazer (it’s not a Blazer, but a sport jacket so the copywriter is suspect right away) says it has notch lapels.
The illustration shows peaked lapels! ??
A disengagement between reality, the copywriter and illustrator? Do they hate each other? Is this the intrigue of an office politics plot?
Or maybe ignorance of the subject. Not knowing the names of men’s garments, not knowing the rules about buttoning and not having a clue about the details of men’s fashion!
The illustrator must share the blame since the bottom button of the Entrepreneur Vest is, horror! buttoned. A colossal faux pas in men’s fashion.
So which is it – peaked or notched?

Andy,
I need to apologize for a number of things.
1. It’s a sin to not know that difference between blazers, sport coats, notches and peaks…or when to button a bottom button (never).
2. A mortal sin not to have answered your email promptly.
3. The copywriter is no longer with us and the rest of those responsible for this catastrophe have been exported to the worst place I could think of.
When I get back from my trip, I’d love to sit down and talk with you about men’s clothing.

Apology accepted, however there can be no apology for ignorance since that can always be corrected!
