Ok, so I'm worried that I may have killed these shoes. I have a pair of AE Powells that were originally what they call chili-red. A couple of times I used brown Meltonian shoe cheam in a darker shade. Over time they started to take on two different shades. The darker brown has been flaking off.
To try and fix the situation, I switched to the correct shade of shoe cream. Still flaking. I tried saddle soap to clean them up and it worked a little. I tried rubbing alcohol to remove the old cream/dye, it got some, but it still is there.
Is there anything else I could do the remove the old cream/dye or even out the color?

Can these shoes be saved?
