Hi there young fellers, greeting from an old boy. If you'd like to skip the intro skip down to the bold.
I'm new to the forum, and new to Trad so I thought I should maybe introduce myself. Hi there, I'm Matt, call me what you will. If I'm posting in the wrong section you may tell me to shove it. Or stuff it. Or just tell me to post elsewhere, and I may or may not get the hang of the forum rules and standards eventually. Time will reveal all.
Like I said before I'm new to Ivy style. But there is something so endearing and lovable about it; it's becoming and seemingly absorbing (time-wise) a large part of my life. But I suppose I never really knew what trad was until quite recently - I had just seen the occasional folk who looked so well put together but I was unable to describe what had impressed me about them. I was unaware their style was a style at all, but I recognized I wanted to be that well put together myself one day. I'm still unable to put into words my affection for it, but nonetheless there is something heart-warming about the Ivy look and I am happy to now be embracing it as my own.
As this is my introductory post, I feel obligated to leave you people still listening to me something for your troubles.

Hopefully this video will aggravate those whose personalities are incompatible with mine; and to those who appreciate the video as I do, a bond will be forever formed between us.
Now for the reason of this entire post.
It's obviously not a fortune, but I just acquired 150 dollars that I had not previously foreseen acquiring. I'm trying to build my wardrobe, and acquire some staples that I am missing. I've had some great luck at thrift stores in the past few months, (quality OCBD's, Shetlands, Sweater Vests, Waistcoats, Sport Coats, Scarves, Khakis) but obviously the most important items are the hardest to come by.
So my question for all of you, is if you were me, where would you spend this modest sum of money??
I have a few ideas where I would like to put it, but more perspectives from more experienced individuals is always invaluable. Let me briefly the things I am considering.
- I'd really enjoy a new pair of shoes but I'm unsure if I have enough cash to buy quality (I'd like to buy quality once, rather than mediocre shoes that will look like garbage tomorrow)
I would really like a pair of Weejuns, and considering winter is approaching I would like to purchase a pair of boots, perhaps Chukkas. Is a pair of shoes possible here? Any advice on options?
-Because the thrift gods have passed unto me some beautiful sport coats I would enjoy being able to wear them soon. But almost all of them need to be tailored slightly in the waist. (I'm a size 40L, 5'11, and weight 150 pounds causing the waist department of my previous owners to leave me swimming in material)
Also, I have found Khaki's that fit well, but I would like to get them altered. Cuff-no break.
Should I alter a few of these sport coats and/or khaki's with my smallish fat-stack of money?
I'm also pining for a new hat, but considering I need shoes more, and need alterations on sport coats I feel as if a Donegal Tweed Wiggens hat would be irresponsible at this juncture...:(
Once again, I never intended for this post to be so long. Sorry folks. Thanks for the time, and advice and I hope you gained some amusement or happiness out of this mess somewhere.
