Hello all,
I recently bought a pair of Alden for J. Crew Longwing Bluchers in #8 shell (of course :)) in 10.5 D. This is a half-size down from my usual 11 D.
I have two or three other pairs of shoes in shell on the Barrie last, including Alden for J. Crew black cap-toe bluchers ("Cadet") and color 8 cap-toe boots. They are also both 10.5 D and fit beautifully - especially the bluchers, which are a perfect fit.
Here's my question : I expect the LWB's to fit the same as the other shoes, and they seem to fit (although maybe slightly long and slightly wide), but it's hard to tell because they LOOK absolutely HUGE. Like, wearing-the-box-instead-of-the-shoes huge.
This may be because of the wide, 360' reverse welt, thick sole and massive heel. The other shoes have a much narrower, 270' regular welt.
Do you think the hugeness is an optical illusion caused by the huge welt ?
And, if so, is the perception of massiveness part of the desired look of this style of shoe ?
(Please excuse me if I posted in the wrong place.)
