A relative claimed that this pattern is really just appropriate for Thanskgiving through the end of the same year - perhaps until the twelfth day of Christmas on January 5th .

Would you wear this tartan outside of the season such as before Thanksgiving or after the New Year ? Would it look ridiculous around Halloween when fall colors reign ? Perhaps I could get away with it on Valentine's Day ... :biggrin:

ADVISE FOR YOUNG NOOB

Hi.

I am quite new here, I've read quite a bit about different brands, classic menswear etc, using the search function, there is certainly a wealth of knowledge on this board. I am starting out, so looking to build a versatile winter wardrobe with items such as:

-Slacks: I don't like jeans, i know chinos are an alternative, but I think dress slacks are better looking and more comfortable as I have an athletic lower body due to weight training etc. I was thinking of investing in a few good pairs of grey flannel slacks, and a few other wool slacks.

-Shirts: A few dress shirts, one or two whites and the rest mainly blues. A few button downs also, oxford etc.

-Knitwear: A few sweaters made from lambswool or merino wool, perhaps one cashmere one also.

-Jackets: Perhaps a Navy Wool Blazer and then a Grey One.

-Shoes: I am going for the Loake 1880 as my first dress shoe, perhaps an oxford or one with some brogue in black. Then perhaps a penny loafer as a second shoe.

I just need some overall advise if I am going in the right direction. I am nearly 24 years old, just finished a postgraduate degree and I am going into the field of computer science/data science in the UK.

I've read quite a bit about dressing according to ones age and profession. Just like in most workplaces, there isnt much of a dress code in the computing domain area. So I am a little confused on how to build my wardrobe.

Also in the past I've had comments on how I dress like a old man, however before I didnt know anything about clothing and perhaps things like my slacks being too baggy resulted in people saying this. Alternatively I wouldn't mind getting some long sleeve polo shirts, if that helps to make things a bit more casual.

What do you guys think ? Can young person like myself wear the above items daily without going for todays ultra skinny stuff (legs are too big lol) ? Or shall I not waste my limited budget and go for a more of a dressed down approach ? Or shall I just buy one item each of these basics just incase ?

Also can anyone recommend any UK places for such items, is there a UK thread ?

AE Grayson sizing/fit compared to Park Avenues or Strands?

I normally wear a 10D in the AE Park Avenues and Strands. However, while the length is perfect, I need to add tongue pads. Is the vamp on the AE Grayson high enough that they will fit like the other AE shoes I have? Should I size down at a 9.5? For what it's worth, I wear a 10 in a Sebago Penny Loafer and the fit is spot on.
