That's not a command. Besides, that's all we do here anyway. Nay, this is about the Big Debate tonight in Cleveland.
Disclaimer: This is not a thread about politics. It's a thread about how politicians dress. It's also somewhat longer than I like to do, which is get in and out quick-like, of late accompanied by tedious photo montages that, compared to stuff about the mesh that holds your junk in place while swimming, gets mostly overlooked. But that doesn't stop me. An Armani thing is in the works, coming soon. May be nominated for a Threadie, a newly created award I've decided to occasionally give myself. Maybe more than occasionally. Anyway...
Tonight, the ten leading Republican candidates hit the stage in Cleveland, clumped together for the first time. So how will they look, stand, move and dress? I began this morning by writing down who I thought the Top Ten were, and I aced that test, but one, Scott Walker, I can't pick out of a line-up.
Lemme explain. I have no TV. Four or five years ago when the over-the-air channels here switched to HD, their signal decided to give my antenna a pass. Cable has never been strung in my town. That leaves satellite. I thought I would try to see how much I'd be missing without it. I know I wouldn't be missing the forty bucks a month. I think I do quite well: I have Sirius/XM satellite radio, I have (sporadic) internet access and I have DVDs ( with whole seasons of Thrones, etc. yet to be watched.)
But I may not have the latest up-to-date images in my head of the Top Ten Republican candidates. Like, Huckabee goes up and down, is he fat again? Slim Huck, Fat Huck, he's always struck me as a bit dumpy. I expect Donald Trump will dress, look and move as Trump has throughout his ubiquity. Which is to say, quite good. He has style. It's called Trump. I think Jeb Bush is sorta trad; I picture him tonight dressing very WFBuckley. Looking good, at ease in his stuff.
Rand Paul has been shown on this site not long ago attempting trad, but looking slightly disheveled. I expect similar tonight. Not that that's a bad look. Have I mentioned I couldn't pick Walker out of a line-up? So he could show up in a Speedo and I wouldn't know any better. Christie --- I must admit, politically, which I've promised not to do here and don't you either -- I'm very drawn to him and it's tough to separate that from how I think he presents, so I think he does very well, especially for a lard. Ted Cruz seems to usually look pretty well turned-out, Texas Trad maybe? Marco Rubio always strikes me as a little unsure of him self in his presentation, so I expect him, over all the others, to maybe miss a beat on whatever he chooses to wear. Ditto with how he may move. True movement is probably non-existent, being at podiums, but heads can bend and turn, hands can make points, faces can show maybe too much or not enough.) Am not too familiar with the appearance of Dr. Carson, but he has an extremely soothing vocal delivery; maybe that will reflect in his dress; you won't notice/remember it. I have zero knowledge of Kasich, or even if I'm spelling his name right. All in all, I expect probably Cruz to be the stylistic winner tonight.
