Hello gentlemen, first post here.
Looking to get back into "big-boy" clothes after a long 6 year hiatus.
From the time I was 22-26 I was working for the marketing department of the local electricity company and my wardrobe consisted of several Bachrach suits (for some reason I liked that store at that time) a few "Macy's" CK and Alfani suits, a BB suit and a Canali double breasted blazer. Lots of BB shirts and Cole Haan and Johnston&Murphy shoes. After I got laid of from that job, I got into another field and have been wearing Banana Republic long sleeve shirts, common department store slacks, and tragic rubber-soled shoes (please don't judge me).
Now I need to get back into better clothing, and all that survived from my former life is the BB suit, one CK suit, one Alfani suit, and the Canali Blazer, all which I have had tailored to give me a proper fit as possible, also one pair of J&M shoes and a pair of Cole Haan shoes survive in very good shape.. All the Bachrach suits and most of the other Alfani suits where given away, since at some point I realized they where terribly ill-fitting and some just looked really cheap.
In an effort to start building up a decent wardrobe, I bought three A.E pairs of shoes now that they have that sale going on, a couple of A.E belts and a couple of Coach belts.
Now I need to start thinking about suits again. The 3 I have left, which I mentioned above, are getting long on the tooth, but are still wearable. In my immediate future there have to be at least two suits to add to my current wardrobe, but I don't know where to start. Sadly, at 32 I am still not making as much money as I was at 25 and while I am comfortable, I can't exactly go and buy 3 3,000 dollar suits without giving it a second though. I have been looking at BB, department stores and even e-bay to see where I can get a good deal on good suits.
On EBay, I noticed a new BB 1818 Fitzgerald grey suit for 440.00, but it was 64 wool/36 cotton, a combination I am not familiar with. Don't know if that's a good deal of not.
I have also considered a few used Emporio Armani Suits with are going for around 250/300 that look very sharp on the pictures, but I am on the fence about buying used clothing.
Basically any advise on which direction I should go in is appreciated. Every time I find what looks like a nice suit I use the search function of the forum and find that it's a piece of crap.
Thanks!!
