Take a watch like an Omega Planet Ocean. Comes in various colors, one of which has an orange ring around the bezel and an orange rubber strap.
Is it appropriate to match this color with the tie and pocket square when worn with a suit? I know some would say this watch would not be appropriate for wear with a suit, but I like to go a bit bright with accessories... I am a tall strong mean looking guy and bright colors soften the imposing nature of my appearance, I find.
Now, getting picky... what about this watch with a black strap and only the orange ring around the bezel?
And getting even more picky, what about a black strap watch with a blue suit and brown shoes? Is it subtle enough not to matter? Or a chocolate brown strap watch with butterscotch colored shoes?
I've always subscribed to the idea that watches don't really need color matched with clothes, but a brightly colored watch like the above seems "in your face" enough to require some more thought.
Matching watch colors in formal wear - how important is it, or is it?
