I just ran into a phenomenon I have not seen before. My EB Claret Museum Calf Austerity Brouges are now 15 months old and have been worn a half dozen times. They had a few light scuff marks that weren't coming out with just brushing. I figured it was time to break out the polish on them, as after a year they could probably use some moisturizing anyway.
I used my neutral AE cream very lightly on them, spreading it around evenly. After 15 minutes to dry, I gave them a good buffing with a large soft brush from Nordstrom that is dedicated to neutral only. Following this I applied a light coat of Kiwi neutral paste wax to get a nice sheen. After a good buffing, the scuffs were gone, the color and its mottled variations remained intact.
I was pleased until I noticed the toe area of the left was duller than the right, which it had not been before. I took out a soft chamois and buffed them both, but the result was the same. Thinking it was just a matter of having inadvertently given more buffing attention to the right, I proceeded to buff both of them with the brush again. This time I made sure to give the left shoe more brushing than the right.
Despite my best efforts and repeated bushings, the left remains duller, and my arms are sore. I'm sure no one else would notice even if I pointed it out to them. But I see it, and can't for the life of me figure out why this happened. They were identical before the polishing.
Has anyone else seen this occur? It has not happened to any other of my shoes before. Same shoes, same products, same cloth and brush.
Different shines between left and right shoe
